Taralga Historical Society Inc

Taralga Historical Society was formed to preserve the history of Taralga and its residence for future generations. They obtained the former Methodist Church (c.1868) and it became their headquarters in 1972.

The old Taralga Methodist Church is now also the Historical Society Museum and is open to visitors. The museum showcases artefacts and historical photos of early life in Taralga, archives and family history.

For those tracing their family tree the hard work of the Historical Society is second to none, with over 100 family history folders in most cases there will be some very useful information.

Family history enquiries are attended to, and the society has books describing the early years of European settlements in the Taralga district for sale.

In the grounds, you can wander through the old dairy building and a restored settler’s slab hut, and take in other attractions of the past. Specialised displays on a variety of topics are held on the Sundays of the Queen’s birthday weekend and Labour Day weekend. Open days are also arranged by appointment for tour buses.

If you have any old photos or information about the area please feel free to contact a member of the Historical Society or email them to us on the contact page.

Even if you do not have any old photos or information, Taralga Online is always looking for new photos and information in the Taralga and surrounding area. We are especially interested in visitors and locals who have taken some good photos that would be interesting for visitors to the site to see how beautiful the area is.
